God Is… | Unity

God loves Unity because God loves community.

God’s plan has always been community. Even from the beginning God created Adam and Eve and told them to be fruitful and multiply (Genesis 1:28). God’s intention has always been community.

I truly believe that if we live the commandment found in Matthew 22:37 -39 which states “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important, Love your neighbour as yourself,” we will have fulfilled God’s commandment on unity.

Unity does not mean there will be no differences or difficult situations. Just the opposite awakens Unity. Unity is not an automatic when we become Christians. It needs to be practiced and chosen. We need to choose to obey and respond to the scripture to “Love the Lord our God” and we also need to choose to “Love our neighbour as ourselves.” This feels easy when we are all getting along and singing Kumbuya by the fire. The challenge of unity comes when it is not easy to love one another and live in community together. I know that I am selfish by nature so it is not natural for me to feel and respond to Unity. It is a decision I make to obey the Word of God. It is a principle I choose to live by. I choose to love God, I choose to love others and I choose to live in community. I choose unity.
