Whispers | Hearing God In… Storms
Six years ago we decided to expand our family through the incredible process of adoption. We had been chosen by a birth mother to become the parents of her newborn baby girl and we could not have been happier. A mere six-months prior, while on a mission’s trip to the Dominican Republic, we felt the Lord say He had a child for us and we began to get ready for this new adventure.
The process to adopt our daughter proved to be not just a storm but a raging storm. We came up against hurdles and roadblocks that our adoption lawyer had never seen in all her years of practice. Why us? How can this be happening? With every delay we simply had to allow the storm to rage and trust that God was working on our behalf even if we did not feel Him or see Him working.
In hindsight, our daughter’s birth mother needed the time not only with her child but also with us. In the weeks as we awaited final Ministry approval we were able to get to know the woman who would give us the greatest gift we have ever been given. Those times as we laughed and cried together were so precious and I would not have traded them for anything. A bond and trust was developed and she has been able to call us to help her place the other children she has given birth to since the birth of our daughter.
We have watched the miracle of families being created because of our storm. Trust God, no matter what you are facing. He always turns everything around for good.
